TO HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR, ALDERMEN AND COUNCILLORS
OF THE BOROUGH OF EAST HAM.
Mr. Mayor and Gentlemen,—
I have the honour to submit, in compliance with the
requirements of the Local Government Board, my third Annual Report
dealing with the Health and Sanitary condition of the Borough
during 1907.
The death rate was the lowest ever recorded in the Borough,
being only 11.0 per 1,000, the average rate during the past 10 years
being 13.0 per 1000.
The Infantile Mortality rate is also the lowest hitherto
recorded, while the Zymotic death note shows a considerable decrease.
Included in the Report is an account of the work of the Isolation
Hospital, and also a record of the work done in connection with the
Public Elementary Schools. The Report made to the Council on the
Education (Administrative Provisions) Act, dealing with the Medical
Inspection of school children, is also included.
I am pleased to have this opportunity of expressing my great
appreciation of the work and loyal co-operation of the Staff of the
Public Health Department, and also of the Matron and Staff of the
Isolation Hospital.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours faithfully,
G. SOW DEN, M.D., D.P.H.,
Medical Officer of Health.
Town Hall, East Ham,
March, 1908.
