Case mortality in Hospital, per cent.6.9214.61

From the above figures it will be seen that there was an
increase of 128 cases compared with the previous year. The
highest number of cases notified in any one month was 43 in
November, equal to a case-rate of 4.44 per 1,000 per annum. The
lowest number in any one month was 10 in April, equal to a caserate
of 0.96 per 1 000 per annum.
219 cases were removed to Hospital for treatment, or 64
per cent, of the cases notified, resulting in 32 deaths, equalling a
case mortality of 14.6 per cent.
120 cases were treated at home, resulting in 15 deaths,
equalling a case mortality of 12.5 percent.
In comparing the mortality figures of Hospital treated cases
and home treated cases, it should be considered that the most
severe are sent to the Hospital, and the mild cases kept at home. It
frequently happens that a parent will decide to keep the case at
home until the condition of the patient is such that human aid can
render but little service, and then, and not till then, a request is
made for its immediate removal to Hospital.
The Infants' Department of Fourth Avenue Schools was
closed for 14 days during the month of February, owing to an
outbreak of this disease.
