This disease is one that is looked upon by poor people to be
of little importance, and in many fatal cases, if greater care
had been exercised, some of the deaths might have been prevented.
DIPHTHERIA AND MEMBRANOUS CROUP.
Diphtheria and Membranous Croup caused 47 deaths,
equalling a death rate of 0-40 per 1,000 living, as compared with
14 deaths and a death rate of 0-13 per 1,000 for the year 1903,
the case mortality being 13-86. Four deaths occurred in Hospitals
outside the Borough.
SMALL POX
Has caused no deaths during the year.

In the year 1898, Antitoxin was first introduced, and the following table shows the deaths from Diphtheria for the six years before its use, and the six years after:—
