the Borough of West Ham, they have been compelled to suspend
the arrangement which enabled East Ham to send their Diphtheria
patients into the West Ham (Borough) Isolation Hospital.
The Council subsequently arranged with the Plaistow District
Nurses Home, to send trained nurses to take charge of patients in
their homes, where efficient nursing was not provided.
The Council have taken premises in the centre of the District,
large enough for twelve beds, and the necessary staff, and are now
busy furnishing and fitting the premises for the reception of
patients, which will be ready in about fourteen days.

It will be seen from the recorded cases, that during the year
1898, 212 cases occurred in the District, resulting in 23 deaths,
being equal to 10.85 per cent, of deaths.
