To the Chairman and Members of the East Ham Urban
District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Eighth Annual
Report relating to the Health and General Sanitary conditions
of this District, for the year 1897.
General Sanitary Condition of the District.
(a) The estimated population in March, 1897, was
60,000, this number being arrived at by counting the number
of occupied bouses, although we have made a recent count
(January, 1898), from which we find there are no less than
12,387 houses in the District: 11,508 of these are occupied,
139 empty, and 740 in course of construction.
