There were 50 cases of Typhoid Fever reported, which
resulted in eight fatal cases, as against 56 reported cases and
eight deaths for 1896.
In every case the residence of the patient was examined
as to the sanitary condition of the external drainage, as also
the drains inside the house, including the water supply used
for domestic purposes, in addition to that used for flushing the
w.c., and also food supply as far as possible.
The majority of the cases were of a mild type, hence the
small number of deaths (8) in proportion to the number of
cases (50).
