the usual details in connection therewith. It will be observed
that there is a slight increase in the number of registered

"It is with pleasure that I am again able to record a minimum
number of contraventions of the Act, a fact which proves
that the majority of the persons concerned do their utmost
to comply with the Act and the various Orders made thereunder;
and having given special attention to the existence of
want of cleanliness, overcrowding, absence of proper ventilation,
defective drainage and sanitary accommodation, and
other nuisances, I am able to report that the whole of the
workshops throughout the district are kept in a sanitary
state."
"Complaint was made as to overcrowding of workrooms,
but upon enquiry it was found that the occupiers complained
of were not contravening the Act. The absence of cases of
overcrowding is chiefly due to the cards, supplied by the
Council and exhibited in each workroom, showing exactly
how many persons may be employed in the rooms during
ordinary hours and overtime."
"Only three notices were received from H.M. Inspector of
Factories. One was with respect to the sanitary accommodation
at a laundry, and this being a new building, the matter
was referred to the Surveyor. The other two notices dealt
with minor defects which were attended to."
"Every attention has been given to the Home-work
provisions of the Factory and Workshop Act, and in cases
where out-workers are employed, notice has been sent to
the respective districts concerned, and in accordance with
the Statute, other local authorities have reported the
residences of out-workers within this district. All the outworkers
are registered for reference in case of an outbreak
of infectious disease."
