CHISWICK URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Public Health Department,
Town Hall.
March, 1911.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Chiswick Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit for your consideration
my annual report on the health of the district during
the past year, which you will, I believe, deem satisfactory;
the chief points being a considerable reduction,
both in the general and infantile death rates,
which compare very favourably with those of previous
years, bearing in mind the materially increased population.
It is always a matter of some difficulty to
estimate more or less accurately the number of
inhabitants at a given date in a rapidly-growing
neighbourhood such as ours and more especially
when ten years have elapsed since the last census;
next year my calculations will be based on the figures
of the new census to be taken in April next. On duly
considering all the facts at my disposal and using the
ordinary methods for arriving at a conclusion, I consider
it a fair estimate to take the population of our
Urban District at the middle of last year at 37,643,
and on this total I have made my calculations.
