of March, April, May, June and September, followed
by 12 deaths, mostly due to lung complications.
Whooping Cough.
Nine deaths of children were due to this complaint,
which prevailed in the spring, chiefly during the
months of May and June. It is very fatal amongst
young children.
Diarrhœa
Resulted in 20 deaths, against 32 for 190G. It
was confined mostly to young children, and occurred
as usual during the summer months, of July, August,
and September.
Inquests.
Eighteen were held during the year; eight deaths
were due to natural causes, nine to accidents, and
one was a case of suicide.
Dairies and Milk Shops.
The total number registered in the district is 30.
Each milk shop has been periodically inspected
at frequent intervals during the year, and notices have
been served in order to amend insanitary conditions,
found as a result of inspection.
Special attention has been given as to the steps
taken in order to prevent contamination of the milk
from dirt, dust, or flies. It is not generally recognised
by milk sellers that during the summer months
milk, when exposed for sale, is liable to be contaminated
from both the dust and dirt of the shop,
