Reference to Table I., at the end of the Report, will
show : —
Firstly, cases notified in the District, with ages of
incidence, and the nature of the Infectious Disease;
Secondly, the total number of cases and the nature of
the disease in each Ward;
Thirdly, the number of cases removed to the Isolation

SCARLET FEVER.
A very large decrease in the number of cases of Scarlet
Fever notified took place, viz., 28 as against 59 last year.
Of the 28 cases 9 occurred at the Royal Female Orphanage.
Twenty-two cases were removed to the Isolation
Hospital.
No deaths were registered as occurring from Scarlet
Fever.
DIPHTHERIA.
Although an increase of cases of Diphtheria occurred,
viz., 40 as against 19 last year, there were 26 cases which
occurred amongst the inmates of the Royal Female Orphanage.
Excluding these cases there were only 14 cases occurring
within the District.
During the year the whole of the inmates and staff of
the Orphanage were swabbed, and a bacteriological examination
was made from the nose and throat of each individual.
A number were found to have the Diphtheria bacilli, and
were removed to the Hospital for treatment.
Swabs, numbering 97, were also sent by medical men
practising in the District, and were examined by Dr. Cave
at the Isolation Hospital.
Thirty-seven cases were removed to the Isolation
Hospital.
I am glad to say that again this year no deaths were
registered as occurring from this complaint.
