Health education is part of the day-to-day work of a Health Department. Though
talks, posters, pamphlets etc. are used, most is done by person to person education
and persuasion. It is necessary to stick to what is known, to avoid distortion or
disregard of the facts and to admit that there are gaps in our knowledge The continuous
suggestion by commercial advertisers that their pills and potions, special foods and
fancies, 'energy boosters', 'easers of nervous tension', etc are essential for healthy
living must be opposed. Health is won by a way of life and not by a bottle of medicine'.
Throughout the year my staff have given generously of their time and talents
To the Council for their support and encouragement and to my colleagues in other
Departments for their help and co-operation, I would like to record my sincere thanks
I remain,
Your obedient Servant,
A. ANDERSON,
Medical Officer of Health
