In addition, 13 unfit houses in the ownership of the Council and purchased for
redevelopment, were still occupied.
All these houses are incapable of being made fit at a reasonable cost and in
each case the owner has had full opportunity to submit to the Council any proposals
for their retention and to object to the action taken by the Council.
The Housing Department is kept informed of adverse housing conditions coming
to the notice of the Health Department and assistance is given in the assessment of
applications for re-housing where priority on medical grounds is claimed.
During the year the Council approved expenditure as under:-
(a) advances of £680,155 under the Housing (Financial Provisions)
Act, 1958 in relation to 343 houses.
(b) improvement grants of £6,205 10s 0d under section 30 of the
Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1958 in relation to
24 houses.
(c) repairs loans of £3,250 under section 43 of the Housing (Financial
Provisions) Act, 1958 in relation to 19 houses.
(d) repair costs of £151 10s 0d under section 9 of the Housing Act,
1957. for work in default in relation to 4 houses
(e) standard grants of £5,645 under Section 4 of the House Purchase
and Housing Act, 1959 in relation to 52 houses.
