Of the 31,675 households, 6,037 (19 per cent.) were in shared dwellings.

This sharing of dwellings occurred chiefly among the smaller families as is shown below:—

Of all households, 85.4 per cent. occupied a number of rooms equal to or greater than the number of
persons in the household.
On this occasion, new information in regard to certain household arrangements was recorded at the census.
The matters covered were piped water supply, cooKing stove, Kitchen sink, water closet
and fixed bath, and the analysis of these records for the Borough is shown below:—

As was to be expected, exclusive use was least in shared dwellings, e.g., 82 per cent. of households in
single dwellings had exclusive use of all five arrangements as compared with 11 per cent. of households
sharing dwellings.
