They are under the control of the Medical Officer of Health and the
Tuberculosis Officer at each dispensary. The work is preventive and not
curative. All patients attending dispensaries are examined as well as the
contacts. The Tuberculosis Officers act as consultants to the three local
London County Council hospitals and their services are always available
for the general practitioners. One acts as Medical Officer at the Geere
House Open Air School.
Through the dispensaries, patients are recommended for Sanatorium
treatment, Finsen Light Treatment, supply of Pneumo-Thorax refills,
and Dental Treatment.
We have six Tuberculosis Visitors (two of them are part-time dispensers).
In addition to their work at the dispensaries they visit the homes
of patients, give advice and report as to home conditions.
The Tuberculosis After-Care Committee is divided into three subcommittees,
one for each dispensary area. It is composed of representatives
of various agencies, the London County Council and the Borough
Council being represented thereon. Each sub-committee meets once a
month and they render valuable assistance to the patients, the Borough
Council and the L.C.C.
