Housing Act, 1 930.
With reference to the measures proposed to be taken during the next
five years in the matter of housing, I prepared a list of 35 areas to be
scheduled as insanitary areas
6 in Limehouse with a population of 1,130, the number of houses
being 158.
1 in Mile End with a population of 4,183, the number of houses being
470.
8 in St. Georges with a population of 7,049, the number of houses
being 887.
20 in Whitechapel with a population of 6,433, the number of houses
being 1,082.
The full list of 35 areas was carefully considered by the Housing
Committee. As we had to have a definite programme for the next five years
the Committee decided to limit the scheme to four clearance areas. These
were selected in districts where housing conditions were at their worst.
These areas contain 463 houses and a population of 3,246.
The estimated number of houses that will be repaired during the next
5 years is 158.
The estimated number of individual houses to be demolished during the
next 5 years is 84, involving a population of 493.
Housing accommodation to be provided, and Slum Clearance proposed
to be undertaken, during the years 1931-1935 (inclusive).
