The general principle of dealing with a parcel of canned goods is to
require a full examination when 2% of contents are found defective.
Arsenic in Apples.
My attention was drawn to the presence of arsenic in Apples imported
from America and purchased at Spitalfields Market. I immediately put a
" stop " to the particular consignment of apples and submitted samples for
analysis. It was quite true that arsenic was present, but as the amount was
not dangerous and did not exceed the limit recommended by the Royal
Commission on Arsenic Poisoning, 1913, I authorised them to be released.
Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act, 1928.
This act refers to the grading and marking of agricultural produce.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries have made the following regulations under the Act, prescribing various grade designations and grade designation marks indicating the quality of the articles:—
