Mr. Rothstein, 35, Old Montague Street, claimed £49 5s.
and £2 9s. 10d. compensation for damages caused by one of the
Council's men in disinfecting his premises.
On November 6th the case was dismissed with costs for
the Council.
Two of the disinfecting men died from Consumption
during the year.
The Mortuary.
689 bodies were deposited in the Mortuary during the
year.
620 were removed to the Mortuary by the Coroner, 43 by
the Police, 13 by the Medical Officer of Health, 7 by the
Relieving Officer, 1 by Mr. Dickinson (the Stipendiary
Magistrate), 1 by the Governor of H.M. Prison, Wandsworth,
4 by friends of the deceased.
689 inquests were held and 64 post mortem examinations
were made.
Unsound Food.
A large quantity of food was seized and a still larger
quantity was surrendered. With only a few exceptions the
latter was found on the various wharves in the District.
In the great majority of cases I called the attention of the
owner to their condition and gave them an opportunity of
surrendering them.
I have no hesitation in stating that the greater percentage
of tinned foods would have found its way on the
Market had it not been discovered by the Food Inspector.
The following were destroyed under our supervision:—
918 tins of Apricots.
1,163 tins of Apricot Pulp.
28 tins of Apples.
7 cases of Apples.
52 drums of Anchovies.
107 tins of Asparagus.
