MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH AND PUBLIC ANALYST,
For the Year 1901.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Metropolitan Borough of Stepney.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present my Annual Report
of the Health and Sanitary condition of the Borough for the
year 1901.
Population.
The census was taken in March, and I have taken the
liberty of extracting some of the particulars from the RegistrarGeneral's
report.
The population was 298,600, which shows an increase of
13,484 over that in 1891, and of 2,892 over the enumeration in
1896.
The number of births in the intercensal period, 1891-1901,
was 112,697, and the number of deaths was 68,241. The
increase of births over deaths was 44,456, but as the total
increase was 13,484 there was really a loss of 30,972 by
migration.
