COUNTY OF LONDON AND BRUSH ELECTRIC LIGHTING
COMPANY'S BILL.
This scheme was, simultaneously with the last-mentioned,
referred to the Paving and General Purposes Committee for
consideration, and the Committee reported as follows :—
" County of London & Brush Provincial Electric Lighting
Company, Limited.
"By this Bill the Company apply to Parliament for
power (inter alia) to acquire five houses in St. Saviour's
Parish and three in the Parish of Bermondsey, nearly opposite
Newcomen's Schools, and a piece of land in the rear
between Newcomen Street and Great Maze Pond belonging
to Guy's Hospital, for the purpose of a generating station.
Seeing that no property vested in the Board is proposed to
to be taken or is affected by the scheme, we are of opinion
that, however objectionable it may be to the hospital and
the schools, this Board would have no locus standi to
oppose it. We, therefore, recommend that no petition be
lodged against the Bill."
The Committee's recommendation was adopted and no
action taken in the matter.
SMALL OPEN SPACES.
A circular-letter having been received from the London
County Council inviting the Board to send a representative to
attend a conference at Spring Gardens between the Parks and
Open Spaces Committee of the Council and representatives of
the local authorities on the subject of the maintenance of small
open spaces, the Board appointed its Chairman (Mr. W. E.
Hill, J.P.) to act on its behalf. The conference took place on
25th February last, and the following resolutions were passed :—
" a. That all the open spaces under ten acres should be
maintained and controlled by the sanitary authority of the
district, the Council granting each year the amount of
money necessary for maintenance ; the amount to be based
upon the last three years' expenditure.
"b. That any contribution towards the maintenance
of any open space which had not been formally maintained
should be based upon the terms of the above resolution,
having regard to the area and position of that already
maintained and controlled in the district."
