be stamped out, but new forms of sophistication may again
appear.
Whisky.— Twelve samples were analysed. Of these seven
were genuine and above the legal limit, viz., 16°, 17°, 18°, 19½|°,
22°, 23¾° and 24° under proof respectively. Five samples were
below the legal limit, being respectively 26°, 26.8°, 26.4°, 27.3°
and 27.5° under proof. Of these the last two only in my
opinion were cases for prosecution.
The actually adulterated samples are therefore:-
Brandy 1
Butter 1
Coffee 1
Gin 1
Milk 2
Whisky 2
8
This represents 9.4 per cent. of adulterated samples out of
the total number received.
Of spirits 4 out of 21 = 19 per cent. were adulterated.
Of milk 2 „ 35 = 5.7 per cent. were undoubtedly
adulterated.
In addition to the samples of food and drink I received two
samples of carbolic acid powders and one sample of water.
I have reported specially on these to your Sanitary
Committee and need, therefore, not comment on them again.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours faithfully,
