accidental dilution.
Summary.—As usual, the samples of milk show the greatest
per centage of adulteration—out of 64 samples received, 18
having been more or less tampered with (28%). Excluding
the condensed milks, the total number of adulterated samples
is 28, which, on a total of 185, is equivalent to 20 7%.
Waters.—During the year, 10 samples of water were
analysed—5 from each of the two Water Companies supplying
this district. They were taken in July, September, October, and
November, 1892, and February 1898. The July samples were
both of fair quality. The September samples were of decidedly
inferior purity- the October samples were much the same—the
November samples were distinctly bad, and the February
samples even worse.
On February 11th. in company with Dr. Herron, 1 gave
evidence before the Royal Commission on the London Water
Supply, The Report of that Commission has not yet appeared.
Since February, no more samples of water have been taken.
