PUBLIC ANALYST'S REPORT.
TO THE BOARD OF WORKS FOR THE ST. SAVIOUR S
DISTRICT.
Gentlemen,
I beg to present to you my Annual Report for the
year ending Midsummer, 1898.
During that time I have analysed 148 samples of food, drink,
and drugs, and 10 samples of water.
The former consisted of:—
No. of Samples.

Coffee
9
Condensed Milk
8
Gin
7
Lime Water

Milk
64

143
The Samples of Bread, Cocoa, Lime Water, Mustard, Pepper,
Rum, and Tea, were all genuine.
The Lime Water was of the exact strength of the Liquor
Calcis of the British Pharmacopoeia, and the sample of Rum
20¾° u.p.
Acetic Acid.—The sample was rather weaker than the Acetic
Acid of the Pharmacopoeia, containing 30 instead of 33% of the
pure acid. This deficiency in strength was probably due to
evaporation.
