In May last, the Board borrowed of the London County
Council, the sum of £1,200, towards defraying the cost of repaving,
with granite pitching, a portion of the carriageway
of the Borough High Street at the foot of London Bridge, and
the work will shortly be carried out. Application has also
been made to the Council for a loan of £1,600 towards
defraying the cost of wood paving works in the same thoroughfare.
Obituary.
Within the short period of a month, the Board had to
mourn the loss, by death, of three of its oldest and most
respected members, viz., Mr. Josiah Hale, Chairman of the
Paving and General Purposes Committee; Mr. Richard Hunt,
Chairman of the Sanitary Committee, and Mr. John Palmer,
who had been a member of the Board since the year 1874. In
each case the Board passed a resolution expressive of its deep and
sincere regret, and of condolence with the family and friends
of the deceased in their bereavement.
