Main Roads
The London County Council has not taken any steps to
carry out the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1888,
and of the Highways and Locomotives' Act, 1878, relative to
main roads (mentioned in the last Annual Report), and lately,
in reply to the application of this Board for certain thoroughfares
to be declared " main roads " within the meaning of the
Act, the Board has received a letter stating that "the Council
is of opinion that there is not probable cause for such application
and declines to accede to it." Inquiry has been made of
other Vestries and District Boards, and it appears from the
answers that in all cases a similar reply has been received
The communication may, therefore, be regarded in the nature
of a circular-letter.
