PUBLIC ANALYST'S REPORT.
TO THE ST. SAVIOUR'S DISTRICT BOARD OF
WORKS.
Gentlemen,
For reasons with which you are familiar, my
report of articles analysed for your Board is shorter than
usual.
Of forty-nine Milks analysed, ten were adulterated with,
respectively 12, 15, 24, 10, 22, 26, 40, 16, 18, and 14 per
cent. of water. Other twelve Milks were somewhat adulterated.
Several, as will be judged from my statement,
will be seen to be diluted to an extent to be greatly injured
as an article of food for the young.
Three Breads, three Flours, two Arrowroots, and two
Oatmeals, were of decidedly good quality.
The same may be said of eight Butters and two Lards ;
they were distinctly of the nature, substance, and quality
demanded.
Two Coffees, two Mustards, a Pepper, and a Cayenne
Pepper were also notably good.
Of Alcoholic Liquors, a Porter, a sample of Ale, three
Gins, and three Whiskies have been analysed. Only one of
these calls for remark. One of the whiskies was considerably
diluted with water, so as to lower the standard. Leaving, as
I have always done, a margin for rinsing the bottles, I gave
your Inspector a certificate for eight per cent. below the
standard of the Act.
I remain, Gentlemen,
Yours faithfully,
ALBERT J. BERNAYS.
