Parliamentary Bills—continued.
Metropolitan Board of Works (Further Powers) Bill,
This was a Bill to confer further powers upon the Metropolitan
Board, with respect to applications to Parliament and
legal proceedings relating to the supply of water in the
Metropolis, upon which no action was taken by the Vestry.
The Bill has been referred to a Select Committee.
PETITIONS TO PARLIAMENT.
On the 12th of July, 1883, the Vestry resolved to petition
the House of Commons in favour of the Criminal Law
Amendment Bill, which provides for the more effectual prosecution
of brothel-keepers, the protection of young girls,
and the suppression of immorality in the public streets.
On the 20th March, 1884, the Vestry resolved to petition
the House of Commons praying that an addition might be
made to Clause 215 of the Companies' Acts Consolidation
Bill, to provide for the preferential payment in cases of
bankruptcy of all parochial and other rates and assessed
taxes, land property, and income tax.
ELECTRIC LIGHTING.
On the 4th May, 1883, the Vestry resolved, subject to
certain conditions, to support the application of the Edison
Electric Lighting Company (Limited), for a Provisional
Order for the public and private lighting of the parish by
electricity. An inquiry was held by the Board of Trade at
the Sessions House, Westminster, on the 9th May, 1883, at
