Parliamentary Measures.
The Vestry, in conjunction with several other Vestries
and District Boards of the Metropolis, petitioned the
House of Commons against the passing of two Bills
during the present session of Parliament, viz.:— "The
Gas Light and Coke Company's Bill," and "The
Imperial Gas Light Company's Bill," and I was authorized
to conduct the opposition with the assistance of
counsel. The opposition had the effect of considerably
reducing the powers sought for by the first named Bill,
and of inducing the Committee to throw out the
Imperial Gas Light Company's Bill altogether.
Sanitary Measures.
The Medical Officer's Report is attached, showing
the sanitary state of the parish, and the steps taken to
improve it during the past year.
In connection therewith the Vestry have caused
101 notices for abatement of nuisances to be served
during the past year, and 2 summonses have been
issued to compel the inhabitants to abate the nuisances
complained of. In all other cases the notices have
been complied with.
Surveyor's Report.
Under this head, all the works done under the direction
of the Vestry will appear.
