By this table it will be seen that in the year 1872 the
mortality was less than in the year 1871, the deathrate
being 1 less per 1,000 in the former year than in
the latter. Of the 504 deaths in the year 1872,
139 occurred in the Charing Cross Hospital; of the
139 persons who died in the Hospital, 31 were resident
in the Parish of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the remaining
108 were from other parts of London and the
country. This circumstance will therefore diminish
the death-rate of the Parish in the following manner :—

The foregoing figures show that the actual death-rate
per 1,000 of the estimated population of the parish of
St. Martin-in-the-Fields for the year 1872 was 18.7.
