than it even now is, the Vestry, after giving the subject
their most careful consideration and attention, came to the
conclusion that in the interests of the parishioners and the
public generally, it was desirable to light the main
thoroughfares of the Parish in as attractive a manner
as possible.
They accordingly resolved to light the under-mentioned
thoroughfares with Electric Light on the basis of the
Scheme before referred to, and referred the question back
to the Committee with instructions to take the necessary
steps for carrying the proposal into effect.
List of Streets.
Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Shaftesbury Avenue,
Coventry Street, Lower Regent Street, Waterloo Place,
Pull Mall, St. James's Street, Piccadilly.
The subject was under the consideration of the Committee
at Lady-day last.
STREETS PARTLY SITUATE IN OTHER
PARISHES.
An order was made by the Metropolitan Board of Works
on the Gth March, 1857, placing that portion of Oxford
Street, which is situate in the parish of St. James under the
jurisdiction of the Vestry of St. Murylebone for all the
purposes of the Metropolis Local Management Act. The
cost of lighting, paving, cleansing, watering, &c, that
portion of the thoroughfare is ascertained annually, and
paid by the Vestry.
