1887. The Vestry having fully considered the matter and
ascertained the views of the Right Rev. Bishop Barry,
Rector of the Parish, on the subject, informed the
Earl of Meath that they did not deem it desirable to
entertain his proposal at the present time.
SCAVENGING. DUST REMOVAL, etc.
Under the system adopted by the Vestry, the roadsweepers
are employed and paid by the Vestry, but the
collection and removal of house dust, street refuse, &c., are
done under contract. The total cost of scavenging and
dust removal for the past year, as given in the accounts,
was £8,917 compared with £8,715 8s. 5d., for the previous
year.
The following is a statement of the number of loads
reported to have been removed from the Parish during the
year:—

The cost of Street Watering in 1894-5 was £966 8s., and
for the year ended Lady-day, 1896, was £1,268 18s. 5½d.,
an increase of £302 10s. 5½d.
The Vestry during the year again had under their consideration
the question of the desirability of the dusting and
slopping of the parish being carried out by the Vestry with
its own staff and plant, and appointed a Special Committee
of twelve members to investigate and report upon the
question. The Committee had not concluded their
deliberations at the end of the year to which this report
relates.
