and the date when the property could be handed over if
wanted. This letter was referred to the Vestry's Sanitary
and Parliamentary Bills Committee who requested the
Guardians to receive a few members of the Vestry in conference
to discuss the question of appropriating the Parish
property in Marshall Street for the erection of a new
laundry and suggested that the first step to be taken at
such Conference be to inspect the present laundry accommodation

Guardians replied that they failed to see that any useful

or interfere with the discretion of the Guardians in the
administration of the Workhouse, they expressed their

matter. The Committee were under the impression that if
the property in Marshall Street was appropriated for poor

respect thereof would be considerably less than the value of
the property based on ordinary commercial principles.
Seeing that St. James's already contributes the greater part
of the money required for the common charges of the
Union, the Committee thought that admitting the new
Laundry is required, some alternative proposals might be
suggested and considered at a Conference of the kind
referred to, with a view, if possible, to some scheme being
adopted which would not entail upon this Parish the undue
cost involved in the appropriation of the property in
question.
