contract, without extra expense to the Vestry. Several of
the small subsidiary brick sewers in Regent Street were
found to be defective and were broken up and replaced with
pipes.
SEWER VENTILATORS.
Ventilating Pipes from the sewers have been carried up
the walls and above the roofs of No. 18, Piccadilly (in Air
Street), at rear of 7, Argyll Street (in Marlborough Mews),
with the consents of the owners of the said premises. A
surface Ventilator was also formed iu the centre of the roadway
at the crossing of Clifford Street and Old Burlington
Street.

CONNECTIONS TO SEWERS.
Fifty new connections from houses have been made to the
sewers by men in the employ of your Vestry.
EXAMINING OUTLETS TO DRAINS.
Examinations of outlets of drains have been made in
twenty-three cases. The fee for examination is tive shillings.
FLUSHING.
The small sewers and courts were flushed at intervals
during the hot weather as found necessarv. The cost, of
water was £226 0s. 1d.; labour, £G2 l1s. l1d.; and repairs
to hose, £38 8s. 3d.
DISINFECTING.
The gullies and market streets were regularly disinfected
during the summer months, but in consequence of
the excessively dry weather the number of men employed
was double those usually engaged at this work. The
disinfectants used for all purposes amounted to 1,913 gallons
of sanitary fluid, costing £111 l1s, 10d.
