London Streets and Buildings Bill. This Bill, introduced
by the London County Council to consolidate and amend the
enactments relating to streets and buildings in London, proposed
to repeal and re-enact by means of a private Bill, the
substance of several Acts of Parliament, some of which are
technically known as public Acts and others as private or
local Acts. The Vestry are of opinion that it is very objectionable
to entirely repeal a public and general Act of
Parliament by means of a private Act; the subject of the
proposed Bill, moreover, is of such importance to so large a
community that the general convenience would, they think,
be best served by the introduction of the Bill as a public Bill,
and, if necessary, referred to a Select Committee instead of to
a Committee of the whole House, for the consideration of
the details
A report by the Vestry's Surveyor on certain points which
he considered required amendment in the Bill, which
throughout is of a highly technical character, was forwarded
to tho London County Council for their consideration.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT, 1894.
The Bill introduced by the Government last Session for
the creation of Parish Councils throughout the country
passed into law and received the Royal assent on the 5th
March last.
The Act, as is generally known, was intended originally to
apply to the provinces only, but an amendment was inserted
in the Bill when it was under consideration by the House of
Commons applying certain of its provisions to the Metropolis.
