Examined in detail, the Estimates for the current year are even
more unsatisfactory, for the greater part of the additional expenditure is
lue to the increased cost of School Maintenance and Administration, over
both of which the Board possesses almost complete control.

The increase of expenditure

has taken place under every head, as the following comparative statement of the estimates for the last year of the Board elected in 1885 and the last year of the Board elected in 1888, will show :—

For the year ended Lady-day, 1889, the charge on the Hates fur School
Maintenance alone was £1 17s. id. per child (the cost of the two previous
years being £1 17s. Id.), but the cost for the current year is estimated at
£2 9s. 2d.
