Your Sub-Committee have to submit for approval the following
Resolution, which was unanimously adopted, on the motion of
Mr. Southon, of St. George's, seconded by Mr. Priyett, of StJames's:—
" That in the opinion of this Meeting it is desirable for the two
Vestries to approach the Home Secretary (through their
representatives in Parliament) in support of an alteration in
the law relating to the prosecution of keepers of Disorderly
Houses, so far as regards the payment of rewards to
informers, either by abolishing the system of informers
altogether or limiting the payment of rewards to cases in
which Local Authorities decline to prosecute on information
brought under their notice properly authenticated."
It should be stated that the Vestry had previously communicated
with the Home Secretary direct, and had received
an assurance from him that he would give full consideration
to the views of the Vestry before the next Session of Parliament,
but that he could not promise to introduce legislation
on the subject, and thus the question still rests.
DRINKING FOUNTAIN.
There is but one Drinking Fountain in the Parish, that
in the Churchyard wall in Piccadilly. This Fountain was
erected and is maintained without cost to the Vestry.
CONVENIENCES, PICCADILLY CIRCUS.
In anticipation of the opening of these Conveniences to the
public on the 7th August, members of the London County
Council and of the local Sanitary Authorities in adjacent
Parishes were invited to a private inspection on the previous
day. For the information of visitors, copies of the following
statement were distributed:—
