ST. JAMES'S CHAPEL AND BURIAL GROUND.
This Trust was brought to a close in August last, when the
Vestry sanctioned the application by the Trustees of the
balance then remaining in hand, as to £200 to the St. James's
Dwellings Fund (see page 62), and as to the remainder,
£79 18s. 2d., towards the expenses incidental to the transfer
ofthe Derby Memorial Schools, Great Windmill Street, to
the Managers of the St. James's National Schools.
PUBLIC BATHS AND WASH-HOUSES.
It appears from the Annual Report of the Commissioners
which was presented to the Vestry in January, that an
increased use has been made of both departments of this
establishment. There were 2,785 more bathers, and 2,047
more washers during the year 1886 than during 1885,
resulting in an increase of receipts to the extent of
£86 18s. 1d. The Commissioners attribute this increase of
business partly to the improvements which have been recently
carried out.
The following extract from the Report of the Commissioners
will probably interest the parishioners generally:—

modern requirements. The Commissioners were again
compelled last year to ask for a sum of £1,000 from the Poor
Rate. The building is, however, now in a state of substantial
repair, and it is anticipated that no further call will be made
upon the rates for some time, although the nature of the work
involves an immense amount of wear and tear, and a
considerable annual expenditure is required to carry out
necessary repairs
After payment of the instalment due early in January, the balance
of loan outstanding will amount to £800 only. This sum is
