SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1875.
REPORT UPON ARTICLES ANALYSED
DURING THE YEAR 1885,
made to the
Vestry of St. James, Westminster,
by

During the year 1885, under the provisions of the Sale
of Food and Drugs Act, 1875, 38 samples were examined, all
being procured for examination by the Vestry Officers.
Of milk, 13 specimens have been examined. Twelve of
these samples were found to have been adulterated. Of the
vendors, two were cautioned by the Vestry. Ten vendors were
brought before the magistrate, and of these two were let off
on payment of costs ; four were fined half-a-crown, in addition
to being mulcted in costs ; one was fined five shillings and
costs; one was fined seven shillings and sixpence and costs;
and one was fined twenty shillings and costs; one was fined
five pounds and costs.
In none of the samples was any poisonous ingredient discovered.
No money or consideration other than the stipend from the
Vestry has been received by me in connection with these
analyses.
