It will thus be seen that although the rates raised by the Vestry
amounted to £115,850, the Local Authorities had no voice in
the expenditure of £71,980 of that sum.

RATES

Were made bv the Vestrv during' the vear as follows:—

Poor Rate (including, in addition to charges for the relief of the Poor, Police, County, and Luuatic Asylums Rates, contributions to the Metropolitan Common Poor Fund, and other general charges)10

The total amount raised with the local rates for these two Boards
alone, during the ten years, is £233,549, being an average of
£23,354 per annum. These precepts, which in the year 1873-74
represented a rate of 3½d. in the pound, had increased to a rate of
a fraction over 1s. in the pound in the year 1882-83.
VESTRY PROPERTY.
The Vestry Hall stands on a portion of the old burial ground,
and was erected under a Faculty obtained in 1861. Part of the
site was formerly occupied by the Parish Vestry Room, which was
removed to afford space for the new building. The Vestry Hall
was erected by Messrs. Mansfield and Son from the designs and
under the superintendence of Mr. A. P. Howell, the Vestry's
Surveyor, at a total cost, including furniture and fittings, of about
£8,(MX), the principal items being as follows:—
