SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1875.
REPORT UPON ARTICLES ANALYSED
DURING THE YEAR 1882.

Rev. Sir and Gentlemen,
Daring the year 1882, under the provisions of the
Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1875, 140 samples were examined,
of which 138 were procured for examination by the Vestry
Officers, and two were submitted by a parishioner.
Of these samples 47 were found to be mixtures coming more
or less under the term adulterated. The mixtures comprised
mustard mixed with starch ; cocoa mixed with starch and
sugar ; and coffee mixed with chicory. In several cases specimens
of milk were found to be probably watered, and peremptory
warnings were sent in such cases.
In no case was any poisonous ingredient discovered.
