The mortality of St. James's during the last four
years has been:—

The previous average of deaths in St. James's
having been 730 for each year, the 592 deaths in
1874 are no less than 138 below the average.
The following table shows the periods of life in
which the deaths have occurred in the last three
years respectively. It will be observed that the
mortality of infants and young children was much
diminished during the year 1874.
