TO THE VESTRY
OF
The Parish of St. Jsmes's, Westminster.
Reverend Sir, My Lords, and Gentlemen,
In laying before you for the fourteenth time the
tables of the annual mortality in your parish in the
year 1869, I beg to append a few remarks on some
of the features of the disease and death of the
parish in that year, as well as the sanitary work
done.
General Mortality in 1869.
The death rate for the year 1868 was lower than
any other year for the last fifteen years. In 1869
there has been a slight increase. The total deaths
recorded in the bills of mortality for 1869 was 789.
It will be however recollected that on account of
the union of the Parish of St. Anne's for poor relief
purposes, I pointed out last year that this had considerably
increased the mortality in the workhouse
