34
years, I subjoin the deaths for each year from 1856,
when the Metropolitan Management Act came into
force.
1856 682 1862 727
185 7 712 1863 757
1858 669 1864 832
1859 764 1865 704
186 0 723 1866 769
186 1 758 1867 707
From this yon will see that, although the year
1867 did not present a lower mortality than three
other years, that it presented a mortality considerably
below the average.
At the same time that this low mortality is a
cause of congratulation, I have no wish to conceal
from you the fact that the rates of mortality of the
last four years is greater than the two precedingfour
years, in which I have been Medical Officer of
Health in your Parish. This being the Twelfth
Annual Report I have laid before you, I may
conveniently divide the last twelve years into three
equal periods of four years, from which you will find
that the mortality from 1856 to 1859 inclusive, was
706—that from 1860 to 1863 inclusive, it was 741
—and that from 1864 to 1868 it was 752.
