Reverend Sir, My Lords, and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit to you for the Eighth
time a series of Tables illustrating the condition of
the health of your Parish, with remarks upon the
work that has been done for the prevention of the
spread of disease and death in the year 1863.
THE CENSUS OF 1861.
Before entering more particularly into this
department of my labours, I wish to call your
attention to some of the results of the Census of
England and Wales for 1861, as far as it relates
to the Parish of St. James's, Westminster. In
my report for the year 1861, I was enabled,
through the courtesy of the Registrar-General, to
give you an account of the general results of the
Census, as far as they related to the increase or
decrease of the population, and the number of
houses and families in the Parish, and the number
of inhabitants in each division of the Parish. On
the present occasion I shall be able to refer to the
