There are countries in the world where small pox,
scarlet fever, measles, and other Zymotic Diseases
have never been known to occur; and just as we
have exterminated plague I believe it possible with
ordinary foresight and care on the part of the community
to exterminate the group of plagues which
annually carry off a fourth of those who die in the
great cities of the world.
In order that you may see exactly the mortality
from these Zymotic Diseases in your Parish, I
reproduce here the tables which I have published
for the last eight years, that you may see the
numbers who have died, the nature of the disease,
and the districts in which death have occurred.
