The Parish of St. James's Westminister.
Reverend Sir, My Lords, and Gentlemen,
I beg to lay before you my Seventh
Annual Report on the Causes of Death and the
Sanitary Work executed in your Parish during the
year 1862. The results are given in Tables at
the end of this Report, and I now proceed to draw
your attention in detail to some of the subjects
which have occupied my attention during that year,
and with which you have been more or less informed
by my Fortnightly Reports. Before proceeding to
special subjects I would speak first of the general
mortality of the year 1862.
MORTALITY OF 1862.
The total number of deaths in the four quarters
is 727. This is slightly in excess of the average of
the last seven years, which is 718; but it is below
the mortality of last year, and must be regarded as
representing on the whole a favourable state of
the health of the Parish. In order that you may
see how the deaths of the year contrasts with those
of previous years I present you with the number of
deaths in each year since 1855, when sanitary
measures were first carried out in the Parish:-
