APPENDIX.
Report of the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
I beg to present the following report for the year ending the 31st December,
1898:-
Daring the year 249 complaints have been made and entered in the official
register kept for that purpose, being seven less than the preceding year.
5 notices in respect to 8 houses have been served under the Housing of the
Working Classes Act, 1890.
22 inspections have been made relating to newly erected houses.
22 water supply certificates have also been granted, under section 48 of the Public
Health (London) Act, 1891, relating to 22 houses and 12 tenements.
135 visits have been made relating to factories and workshops and 20 notices
served in relation thereto, there are 369 now registered, 31 of which have been added
during the year. Several alterations have been made so as to prevent the direct
approach to the conveniences from any room used as a factory or workshop. This
has been done by enclosing them by a solid wall or partition of brick or other
materials, extending the entire height from the floor to the ceiling so as to screen the
conveniences from view of the workers.
