SUBSCRIPTIONS.
The Commissioners made every effort to raise a sum during the
year sufficient, along with the amount of rates receivable by them up to
the 25th March, 1899, to cover not only the cost of erecting the
Library, but also the purchase of the freehold of the land. They
were, however, only able to obtain in promises and subscriptions the
sum of £6,060, which leaves a sum approximating £3,900 still to be
raised. The Commissioners are hoping to raise a further amount by
subscriptions, but it is feared that it will eventually become necessary
to obtain a loan towards the purchase of the freehold.
ANNUAL ACCOUNTS.
The Commissioners submit their accounts for the year ending
25th March, 1899, as audited by the District Auditor, from which it
appears that the Income during the year (including balance from
previous year) was £7,912 11s. 2d., the expenditure £5,597 6s. 10½d.,
and the balance standing to the credit of the Commissioners at the
end of the year £2,315 4s. 3½d.
ALEXANDER HAWKINS,
Chairman of Commissioners.
J. A. JOHNSON,
Clerk to Commissioners.
