Communications were received from the Clerk to the Overseers
of Lambeth in December, 1898, suggesting that it was desirable to
convene a Conference of Overseers with reference to the above
natter, with a view of obtaining an alteration of the law, transferring
to the Police authorities the duty of suppressing brothels. The Board
passed a resolution to the effect that, in their opinion the law as it
stands, is sufficient to suppress disorderly houses, and that the Board
have never during recent years paid infonners fees in consequence of
expeditious steps having been taken in this Parish for the suppression
of the nuisance, and informing the Lambeth Overseers that the Board
were prepared to appoint Representatives to the Conference, but such
Representatives would be instructed to oppose any legislation on the
lines proposed.
ACCOUNTS.
The Overseers submit their accounts for the year ending 25th
March, 1899, which have been audited by the District Auditor, and
certified by him to be correct.
By order of the Overseers,
J. A. JOHNSON,
Clerk.
