These figures show an average of 4-49 cubic feet of consumed
by these lamps, instead of 5 cubic feet, or 1,419 thousand
pubic feet less than the agreed quantity.
Taking the number of hours from sunset to sunrise lighted by
Companies—as 4,300 hours by 50 cubic feet by 660 lamps = 1,419,00
cubic feet. 1,419 thousand cubic feet at 2s. 6d. = £177 7s. 6d. per
annum overcharged to the Vestry.
In my opinion, the Companies should reimburse the Vestry with
this amount, and that tests extended over a longer period would show
a greater deficiency in the quantity of gas supplied.
A. M. HISCOCKS, C.E.,
Surveyor.
