Surveyors' Annual Report. 43
SEWERS DEPARTMENT.
It has been found necessary to open and cleanse a number of
???Pe Sewers, blocked in consequence of there not having been a
???icient supply of water for flushing the same. This arises in a great
???asure from there being no overflow from water-butts, cisterns,
???, as was the case under the intermittent supply system, the Water
???mpany having laid on a constant supply no overflow occurs.
???is could be remedied by the construction of flushing chambers
???hydrants with meters fixed on the Water Companies mains.
properly flushing the Pipe Sewers, the expense of opening
???wn to clear the same would be avoided, and also the
???ience and danger of stopping the drains.
It would be very desirable to construct Underground Urinals
???d Water Closets in place of the Urinals in the Old Kent Road
???d St. George's Road. The charge made for the use of the
???ater Closets would more than re-imburse the cost of con???uction.
